About
Ueno is the traditional gateway to the north, with Tohoku, Joetsu and Hokuriku Shinkansen stopping here, and this JR East center sits right outside the Central Ticket Gate toward the Asakusa Exit. It sells and exchanges Japan Rail Passes and JR East area passes, issues fare and Shinkansen tickets, hands over JR-EAST Train Reservation tickets, and provides tourist information for East Japan and Hokuriku plus Ueno area maps. Free JR-EAST Wi-Fi is available and major cards are accepted.

Tips
- Bring your passport: it is required for Japan Rail Pass and most tourist-pass purchases and exchanges
- Queues build in the morning when travellers start their pass; mid-afternoon is usually quicker
- Arriving from Narita on the Skyliner? Keisei Ueno is a separate station 3 minutes away
- Ask about the JR East Pass (Tohoku or Nagano-Niigata area) if you are heading north
