About

Most people walk right past it on the Ginza Corridor side. OKUROJI (literally 'deep back alley') runs through the brick viaduct that has carried the Yamanote and Keihin-Tohoku lines since 1910, and JR restored the arches in 2020 into a hushed corridor of around 40 small businesses: whisky and shochu bars, a grilled-shellfish counter, natural-wine spots, a craft-beer stand, tea and knife shops. The lighting is low, the brick is original, and every few minutes a train thunders through the ceiling, which is half the charm. Locals use it as an after-work hideaway that feels a world away from the neon of Ginza next door, and because each unit is tiny the vibe stays intimate even on a Friday.
