Hatonomachi-dori Shopping Street 鳩の街通り商店街
A slow, winding old shopping street in Higashi-Mukojima where tiled 1950s facades, faded shop signs and tiny cafes survive from a former post-war entertainment quarter.
About
Walk into Hatonomachi-dori from the Mito-kaido end and shoot along the gently curving street: low shophouses, a few buildings with colourful tiles and rounded corners from the 1950s, faded hand-painted signs and potted plants make it feel frozen in time. Afternoon, when a few shops are open, gives a living street scene. Many houses here are private homes and some residents dislike cameras: shoot the streetscape from the road, do not photograph people or into windows without permission, and keep noise down.
