About

Hamacho Park was one of the three large reconstruction parks built after the 1923 Great Kanto Earthquake, along with Sumida Park and Kinshi Park. It sits on the former Edo residence of the Hosokawa lords of Kumamoto, which is why the small Seishoko temple to Kato Kiyomasa stands at its edge. The park has a big lawn, a childrens playground, tennis courts and the Chuo City Sports Center, and its riverside terrace connects to the Sumida River promenade with views of Shin-Ohashi bridge and the Skytree. Cherry trees bloom along the paths in spring, and entry is free.
