About
Kawai Gyokudo spent his last years in Mitake, and this museum opened in 1961 to show his landscape paintings of rural Japan. The building by architect Yoshida Isoya frames a raked-gravel garden that ranks highly in Japanese garden surveys, and a reconstruction of the painter's studio is on view. The Tama River gorge walking path runs right past the door.
