Out of the JR gate, take the first corner on the right to find 13 small, 5 medium and 2 large lockers. Inside the gate on the right of the passage are 10 small, 10 medium and 4 large lockers. Both take IC cards, coins and notes. If you exit right and leave the station building, a privately run locker corner across the road has about 35 lockers at 200 yen, 6 at 300 yen and 2 at 500 yen big enough for a suitcase; it takes coins only, is open 24 hours and allows up to 4 days. The Chiyoda Line station below has its own lockers near the escalator from the JR gate. From here it is a 10-minute walk to Yanaka Ginza and the temples of Yanaka.

Tips

• The private corner is a separate company: 24-hour access but coins only

• JR East lockers roll over to a new day at 2:00 am and can be used for up to 3 days; after that, bags go to the station's lost-property office
