About

Ikebukuro is not where most visitors look for world-class cocktails, which is exactly why Bar Libre feels like a find. Down a flight of stairs on the west side of the station, the bar has been quietly working for over a decade, with jazz on the speakers and a back bar of around 300 bottles, including hard-to-find old Japanese whiskies. You can order from the menu (the Fake White, with gin, tomato, black tea and yoghurt, and a hojicha Espresso Martini are favourites) or simply name a spirit and a mood and let the bartenders build something with seasonal fruit. Recognition from Asia's 50 Best in 2025 and again in 2026 has brought more international guests, and the team speaks good English.
