About
Shinsekai ('New World') opened in 1912, its northern half modelled on Paris and its southern half on New York's Coney Island, with the first Tsutenkaku tower at its centre. After decades of decline it has become one of Osaka's most photographed neighbourhoods, with loud signage, deep-fried kushikatsu counters, shogi parlours and shooting galleries. Spa World and Tennoji Zoo are on its edges.
Highlights
- Tsutenkaku Tower at the centre
- Kushikatsu restaurants on every corner
- Janjan Yokocho arcade
- Retro game and shooting galleries
Tips
- Remember the 'no double-dipping' rule for the shared kushikatsu sauce.
- Combine with Tennoji Park and Abeno Harukas, a short walk east.
