Sakuranomiya Bridge (Ginbashi) 桜宮橋(銀橋)
Osaka's "Silver Bridge": a 1930 silver-painted steel arch over the Okawa River, designed by architect Takeda Goichi, with a matching twin by Ando Tadao.
About
Sakuranomiya-bashi, universally called Ginbashi (silver bridge) for its colour, opened in 1930 on Route 1. Because the ground here is soft, it was built as a three-hinged arch to cope with settlement, and the architect Takeda Goichi gave it its clean, modern lines. When the road was widened, a second arch, Shin-Ginbashi, was added alongside in 2006 to a design by Ando Tadao that echoes the original. The bridges overlook the cherry tree promenade of Kema Sakuranomiya Park, and the silver arches are illuminated at night.
