About

Kema Sakuranomiya Park runs along both banks of the Okawa River from Tenmabashi north to the Kema lock, the point where the old Yodo River enters the city. Its avenue of cherry trees, mostly somei-yoshino, creates a pink tunnel for several kilometres in early April, with picnic blankets laid out below and boats passing on the river. The rest of the year it is a peaceful riverside running and cycling route with views of Osaka Castle's area and the Kitahama skyline. At the north end the Kema lock and the birthplace of the haiku poet Yosa Buson are worth a look, and the Japan Mint's Sakura no Torinuke passage is on the east bank.
