About

Successor to the 1937 Osaka Municipal Electric Science Museum, which had Japan's first planetarium, the Osaka Science Museum opened on Nakanoshima in 1989 and has a 26.5-metre dome theatre that shows planetarium programmes and full-dome films. Its four exhibition floors cover space, chemistry, electricity and everyday science with about 200 interactive exhibits, and the 2024 renewal updated many of them along with a new cafe. Live science shows with demonstrations such as liquid nitrogen and static electricity are held several times a day. Planetarium programmes are mostly in Japanese, but some have English audio guides. It sits next to the National Museum of Art, so families often split up and meet afterward.
