About

In the Edo period Hachikenyahama was the main landing for the Sanjikkoku-bune river boats that carried travellers between Osaka and Fushimi in Kyoto, and it was the start of the Kumano pilgrimage road. Today a modern terrace of wooden steps and riverside walkways lines the Okawa here, with a boat pier for Aqua-Liner water buses and other river cruises. Behind it, the Kawa no Eki Hachikenya building has a cafe and restaurant with a river terrace. Lit at night, it is a calm place to watch the boats, the bridges and the reflections of Nakanoshimas towers, and a starting point for walks along the river to Nakanoshima Park or upstream to the Osaka Mint cherry trees.
