Tenjinbashi Bridge 天神橋
The longest of Osaka's "Three Great Bridges of Naniwa", crossing the tip of Nakanoshima, where Tenjin Matsuri boats gather each July.
About
First built in 1594 and managed by Osaka Tenmangu shrine (hence the name), Tenjinbashi became a shogunate-maintained bridge in 1634 and, with Naniwabashi and Tenmabashi, one of the three great bridges of Naniwa. Since Nakanoshima was extended eastward it crosses both the Dojima and Tosabori rivers, with a staircase down to the eastern tip of Nakanoshima Park. The current steel arch is lit at night. During the Tenjin Matsuri on 25 July, boat processions pass beneath, and it marks the southern end of the 2.6 km Tenjinbashi-suji shopping street.
