About

The Thousand Kyoto opened in January 2019 on the Karasuma (north) side of Kyoto Station, on Shiokoji-dori between Kyoto Tower and the Keihan hotels. Its name refers to the thousand golden Kannon statues of nearby Sanjusangendo and to the idea of Kyoto's thousand years as a capital. The interiors pair light timber lattice, washi and stone with abstract art; the lobby opens onto a small garden of water and greenery that hides the traffic outside. There is an all-day Italian restaurant, a tea salon and a spa. For travellers it is a practical pick: you can walk from the Shinkansen in five minutes, and be at Fushimi Inari, Nara or Osaka quickly.
