About

The Sagano Romantic Train runs on a stretch of the old San-in Line abandoned when the JR line moved into tunnels in 1989. Its retro carriages, including the open-air 'The Rich' car with no windows, wind along the cliffs of the Hozu gorge between Torokko Saga and Torokko Kameoka, stopping at Torokko Arashiyama and Torokko Hozukyo. The train slows down at the best viewpoints and the conductors sometimes perform. At Torokko Saga Station a steam locomotive display and the Diorama Kyoto JAPAN model railway are worth a look. New carriages are due to debut in spring 2027, so 2026 is the last year of the current fleet.
