Rokusei 六盛
Okazaki restaurant founded in 1899, the creator of the te-oke bento served in a hand-made wooden pail.
About
Rokusei began as a caterer and opened as a restaurant in 1899, taking its name from a local council it served, the Rokuseikai of six neighbourhoods. In 1966 it created its signature te-oke bento: seasonal Kyoto dishes arranged in a lidded wooden pail made by a cooper, a design it registered as a trademark. The restaurant outgrew its first home and in 1977 moved to the north bank of the canal beside Heian Shrine. During building, many roof tiles from the Heian-period Rokushoji temples were dug up on the site, and some are displayed by the entrance. There is also a soufflé café.
