Omen Ginkakuji おめん 銀閣寺本店
Thick white udon dipped in hot sesame-rich broth with a tray of seasonal vegetables you tip in yourself. A cosy farmhouse-style favourite at the top of the Philosopher's Path.
About
Omen's namesake dish is a bowl of thick udon served with a separate hot dipping broth and a plate of seasonal vegetables such as burdock, spinach and green onion, plus a mound of ground sesame. You add the vegetables and sesame to the broth and dip the noodles. The dining rooms are wood-beamed and relaxed, with a mix of tables and tatami, and there is a good selection of Kyoto side dishes and sake. Its location on the approach to Ginkakuji makes it a natural lunch stop.
