About
Named for Nene, the wife of Toyotomi Hideyoshi who founded Kodai-ji, this granite-paved path is wide enough for clean, uncluttered street shots. Stand at the foot of the Daidokoro-zaka steps up to Kodai-ji for a frame of stone stairs and bamboo, or shoot along the path for rickshaws and kimono strollers against plastered walls. During the Higashiyama Hanatoro light-up each March the path is lined with lanterns.
Highlights
- Wide granite paving with clean sight lines
- Daidokoro-zaka stone steps up to Kodai-ji
- Rickshaws and kimono walkers
- Lantern-lined during Higashiyama Hanatoro in March
Tips
- Morning before 9am gives an almost empty path.
- Ask before photographing people in rental kimono.
- Rickshaw drivers stop here: step aside rather than into the road.
