Dinner kaiseki: ¥70,000
About
Kitcho, founded by Teiichi Yuki in Osaka in 1930, defined modern kaiseki: the seasonal multicourse meal in which ceramics, lacquerware and scroll paintings are chosen as carefully as the food. The Arashiyama main house, run by the founder's grandson, serves in private tatami rooms looking onto a carefully tended garden, with dishes such as hassun platters of seasonal morsels and charcoal-grilled fish presented in museum-grade tableware. It is one of the most expensive meals in Japan and requires reservations, often through a hotel concierge.
