About
Hogon-in was founded in 1461 and moved to its present site near the Togetsukyo area. Its garden, designed by the Zen monk Sakugen Shuryo, uses Arashiyama as borrowed scenery, and the term 'aomomiji' (green maples) is said to have spread from here. The garden opens during special spring and autumn viewing periods.
