About
Kyoto Art Center took over the old Meirin Elementary School in 2000, keeping its classrooms, wooden corridors and tatami rooms. The free galleries show contemporary art, and studios host artist residencies. Theatre and dance performances run in the former gym. The Maeda Coffee cafe in an old classroom is a popular break in the Shijo-Karasuma area.
