Arashiyama Monkey Park Iwatayama 嵐山モンキーパークいわたやま

Child (4-12): ¥400
About
Across the Togetsukyo bridge from central Arashiyama, a steep path climbs Mt. Iwata to an open summit where a troop of wild Japanese macaques gathers to be fed. The monkeys are not caged; it is the humans who go into a hut to buy apples and peanuts and hand them through the wire mesh. The park staff know every monkey by name and family. From the summit, 160 m up, there is a wide panorama over the city of Kyoto. It is a favourite with families and doubles as one of Arashiyama's best viewpoints. Do not stare at the monkeys or show food outside the hut.
