About

Maiko Park, on the coast west of Kobe, has been famous for its pine-lined shore for centuries, and now it sits beneath the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge, whose 1,991 m central span was the worlds longest when it opened in 1998. The Maiko Marine Promenade lets you walk 47 m above the sea inside the bridge structure, with glass floor panels. On land, the park keeps historic villas, including the Ijokaku mansion and the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, and a promenade along the strait. At sunset the bridge glows against the sky over Awaji Island.
