About
Sawara prospered as a river port and market town in the Edo period. Along the Ono River, earthen-walled warehouses and merchant houses still trade as soy, sake, sweets and craft shops, cafes and restaurants. It was the first area in the Kanto region selected as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings.
