Kujukuri Beach at Katakai 九十九里浜 片貝海水浴場
A huge open stretch of Kujukuri, Japans longest sandy beach, at its most popular access point: wide sand, rolling Pacific waves, summer beach huts and fresh grilled clams along the road.
About
Kujukuri-hama runs about 60 km along the Pacific coast of Chiba, one of the longest sand beaches in Japan. Katakai, in Kujukuri town, is its best-known swimming beach and the closest to Tokyo by road. The sand is broad and flat, the waves are powerful and consistent, and the lifeguarded swimming area opens each July and August (recently July 1 to August 31) with beach huts and showers. Locals come for grilled hamaguri clams and fresh sardines from the many seafood shacks along the coast road. Sunrise over the Pacific is spectacular.
