About
Kuroda Kanbei began Nakatsu Castle in 1588 at the mouth of the Yamakuni River; its stone walls are among Kyushu's oldest. A keep built in 1964 houses the Okudaira family museum with armour and documents, and the top floor overlooks the river and the Suonada Sea. Continued 100 Fine Castles.
