Yabakei is a gorge of eroded volcanic rock along the Yamakuni River, counted among Japan's three most unusual landscapes and a national Place of Scenic Beauty. In the Shin-Yabakei area, the Hitome Hakkei lookout shows eight distinctive crags at once, framed by maples that peak in early-mid November.
