Bars & Nightlife · Miyakomachi, Oita City
Miyakomachi Nightlife District (Oita City) 都町
Oita Citys neon entertainment quarter and one of Kyushus biggest: blocks of izakaya, snack bars, whisky bars and late kitchens a short walk from Oita Station.
Izakaya dinner: ¥4,000
About
Miyakomachi is where Oita goes out, a grid of streets east of the Central-cho arcades packed with an estimated thousand-plus bars, izakaya, snacks, clubs and ramen shops. It is reckoned among the largest nightlife districts in Kyushu after Fukuokas Nakasu, and much more local: expect regional dishes such as toriten and ryukyu, local shochu and seki-saba sashimi in the izakaya, then authentic whisky and cocktail bars upstairs in the multi-tenant buildings. From Beppu it is 12 minutes by JR to Oita Station, so it suits a night out from an onsen base.
