The roof of the JR Oita City station building is a 4,500 square metre garden with lawns, a small railway shrine, a children's mini train and free play equipment. It looks over Oita city toward Beppu Bay. It is a pleasant free break between trains, and the City Spa Tenku hot spring is upstairs.
