A sandy beach a few minutes north of Beppus Kitahama hotel strip, backed by palm-lined Matogahama Park, with steam rising from the hills behind and views across Beppu Bay.
About
Beppus seafront is mostly hotels and sea walls, but the SPA Beach, about 350 m of artificial sand north of Kitahama, gives you a real beach right in town. Behind it, Matogahama Park has lawns, palms and a promenade, and on cool mornings you can see onsen steam rising from the city and Mount Tsurumi behind. It is not an official swimming beach with lifeguards, but it is lovely for a paddle, a beach walk at sunrise over Beppu Bay or relaxing after a hot spring bath. Summer events such as beach volleyball take place here.

Tips
- It is not a lifeguarded swimming beach: paddle only.
