Tsukiji Outer Market 築地場外市場
When the wholesale market moved to Toyosu, the outer market stayed: 400-odd shops and stalls selling tamagoyaki, grilled scallops, fresh uni and kitchen knives in a lively grid of alleys.
About
Tsukiji Outer Market is where Tokyo chefs and home cooks still buy dried bonito, kombu, tea and knives, and where visitors graze from stall to stall: thick slices of sweet tamagoyaki at Yamacho or Marutake, grilled scallops and wagyu skewers, oysters shucked to order, kaisendon bowls and tuna sushi. Most shops open early and wind down by early afternoon. Namiyoke Shrine on the edge is dedicated to safe catches. Remember the inner wholesale market (and its tuna auction) moved to Toyosu in 2018.
