About
The Tokyo Daibutsu was commissioned by Jorenji's 24th head priest, who had lived through the 1923 Great Kanto Earthquake and the 1945 firebombing, and was consecrated in 1977. The bronze Amida stands 13 metres from its base, with a 3-metre head. Jorenji itself, a Jodo temple with 600 years of history, moved here in the 1970s.
