About

Opened in January 2026 as the Tokyo sister of a popular Osaka venue, Hirakuza turns sumo into a two-hour live show with dinner. Sumo wrestlers perform the rituals, salt-throwing, stamping, the ring-entry ceremony, then demonstrate techniques at full force a few metres from your seat, with an MC explaining the rules in English. Volunteers from the audience get to step into the ring and take on a wrestler, which reliably brings the house down. The meal is a kaiseki-style set (tempura rice bowl at lunch, a fuller course with chanko hotpot in the evening), with upgrades to wagyu sukiyaki, eel or steak and free switches to halal or vegan menus; drinks are extra and there is a sake bar. Ringside VIP seats put you close enough to feel the impact. It's polished, family-friendly and very popular with tour groups, so book ahead, and if you're in Tokyo in January, May or September, see the real thing at Ryogoku Kokugikan too.
