About

Built on a former US airbase to commemorate Emperor Showa's 50-year reign, this is one of Tokyo's largest parks, best explored by rental bike on its 14 km cycle network. Each season has a showpiece: the tulip garden by the canal in April, Shirley poppies in May, a hillside of yellow and pink cosmos in September–October, and the Kanal canal's double row of ginkgo trees turning gold in mid-November. There's also a superb Japanese garden with a tea house and maples, a Bonsai garden, a giant trampoline 'cloud' hill and a kids' forest. The 'Kodomo no Mori' playground makes it a family favourite.
