Omotesando Hills 表参道ヒルズ
Tadao Ando's sleek, spiral-ramped mall along Tokyo's 'Champs-Élysées', with luxury boutiques, design shops and a corner of the old 1920s Dojunkai apartments preserved.
About
Opened in 2006 on the site of the Dojunkai Aoyama Apartments, Omotesando Hills runs 250m along the zelkova-lined avenue. Inside, a six-level triangular atrium is ringed by a gently sloping spiral ramp, walking it is part of the experience. Shops lean to high-end Japanese fashion, jewellery and lifestyle, and the West Wing (Dojun) recreates part of the original 1927 apartment block with ivy-covered walls. At Christmas the atrium hosts a famous illumination.
