About

The statue first appeared temporarily in 1998 for France's 'Year of France in Japan' and proved so popular that this permanent replica, authorised by the French, was installed in 2000. It stands on the Daiba seaside promenade beside Aqua City Odaiba, with Rainbow Bridge spanning the bay behind it and Tokyo Tower peeking through, so it shows up in countless Odaiba photos. When the bridge lights come on at dusk and yakatabune pleasure boats drift past with their lanterns, the combination is unexpectedly beautiful.
