About

Andaz Tokyo opened in 2014 on floors 47–52 of Toranomon Hills Mori Tower, then the second-tallest building in Tokyo. The interiors are a collaboration between New York designer Tony Chi and Tokyo's Shinichiro Ogata of Simplicity, the studio behind the Higashiya sweets shops. They used polished stone, walnut and washi paper in a pared-back contemporary style. The 51st-floor lobby feels like a gallery, with a long timber reception table and artworks. Up one floor, the Rooftop Bar is modelled on the idea of the Katsura Imperial Villa and a traditional teahouse, with low lighting, timber and a terrace with heaters looking straight at Tokyo Tower. A tiny sushi counter sits alongside. The Andaz Tavern and the BeBu bar-bistro are also open to non-guests. Toranomon Hills has grown into a cluster of towers with a new station, and the Andaz is still its best perch.
