About
Nakameguro's Meguro River promenade is one of Tokyo's iconic cherry-blossom scenes, with pink lanterns and petals filling the water in early April. Out of season it's a laid-back neighbourhood of independent boutiques, design shops and coffee: Starbucks Reserve Roastery (a Kengo Kuma building), Onibus Coffee, and wine bars tucked under the Tokyu tracks in Nakameguro Koukashita. Locals jog and walk dogs along the river at dawn.
Highlights
- Roughly 800 somei-yoshino cherry trees over the canal
- Starbucks Reserve Roastery Tokyo by Kengo Kuma
- Nakameguro Koukashita: shops and food under the train viaduct
- Indie boutiques, bookshops and natural-wine bars
Tips
- At sakura peak, visit at 7:00 or after 21:00 to avoid gridlock
- The illuminated nights (yozakura) are the most photogenic
- Walk downstream toward Ikejiri-Ohashi for quieter stretches
