About

Kamiya Bar has stood at the corner by Asakusa Station since 1880, when Kamiya Denbei opened a liquor shop and began serving his own 'Denki Bran', an electric-sounding brandy cocktail named in an era when electricity was the height of modernity. Writers such as Dazai Osamu and Hagiwara Sakutaro drank here, and the bustling ground-floor hall still feels like a Showa beer hall: buy meal tickets at the entrance, share tables, and order Denki Bran (30 or 40 proof) with a draft beer chaser. Upstairs is a Western-style restaurant. It is cheap, loud, very local and a perfect end to a day around Senso-ji.
