About

Founded in 1908 on Kappabashi Dougu-gai, Kama-asa sells 'good tools' to professional chefs and home cooks: carbon and stainless knives from Sakai and other forging centres, Nambu tekki cast-iron pans, copper tamagoyaki pans, rice pots and bamboo utensils. Staff explain blade steels and handle shapes patiently, help you choose by grip, and sharpen and engrave your new knife before you leave. Knives typically start around ¥10,000 and climb well past ¥50,000 for hand-forged pieces. The shop's spare, modern design makes it a favourite on Instagram.
