About

Hope-ken Honpo is the branch of the Hope-ken family that claims the direct line from the original 1935 ramen cart, and its Kichijoji shop has been a fixture north of the station since 1982. The bowl is classic Tokyo seabura style: a rich pork-bone shoyu soup with a scattering of back fat, straight medium noodles, chashu and a heap of green onions. It is open from late morning until midnight, making it a favourite of Kichijoji drinkers and students. Compared with the Sendagaya original it is easier to fit into a day around Inokashira Park and Kichijoji's shopping streets, and queues are shorter.
