Gonpachi Nishi-Azabu 権八 西麻布
The cavernous wooden izakaya-restaurant that inspired Kill Bill's 'House of Blue Leaves' fight scene: soba, yakitori and robata in a three-level Edo-style hall.
Dinner: ¥6,000
Minimum charge after 17:00: ¥1,650
About
Gonpachi's main dining hall is a dramatic timber atrium with balcony seating, lanterns and an open kitchen, and Quentin Tarantino's set designers modelled the Kill Bill showdown room on it (the film itself was shot on a Beijing soundstage). The menu is a crowd-pleaser: handmade soba, yakitori, robata-grilled skewers, tempura, plus a separate sushi floor upstairs. Celebrities and visiting heads of state have dined here, and it stays open very late.
