About

Designed by Miyazaki himself, the Ghibli Museum is less a museum than a storybook house of spiral staircases, stained glass, tiny doors and rooftop gardens, with the motto 'Let's get lost together'. The ground floor explains how animation works with spinning zoetropes, while upstairs recreates a cluttered animator's studio full of sketches, reference books and paints. Children 12 and under can climb on a plush Catbus; everyone can visit the five-metre Robot Soldier from Castle in the Sky on the roof. The Saturn Theater screens a short film made exclusively for the museum, rotating monthly. Tickets are only sold through Lawson Ticket (the official overseas and Japanese site), released at 10:00 JST on the 10th of each month for the following month, and they sell out within hours for weekends. There is no ticket booth at the museum.
