About

The Tamagawa Josui is a 17th-century canal that once brought water into Edo. Between Mitaka Station and Inokashira Park its overgrown, deep channel is followed by a tree-lined footpath called Kaze no Sanpomichi. It is many locals' preferred walk to the Ghibli Museum, and is lined with cherry trees and Dazai Osamu landmarks. Halfway along, the Yamamoto Yuzo Memorial Museum occupies a striking 1926 house with stone chimneys, a mix of Tudor and Frank Lloyd Wright influences. It was home to the author of the classic Robo no Ishi (A Stone by the Roadside). Its fireplaces, stained glass and garden are a pleasure even if you've never read him. Locals know the route as the prettiest way to walk to the park.
