About

Fujiya was founded in Asakusa in 1946 and has been run by the same family since, designing and selling tenugui dyed with the traditional chusen technique. The tiny shop near Nakamise displays hundreds of designs, kabuki, festival, seasonal flowers, Edo humour, and the owners' framed collection of historic tenugui is a museum-like treat. A tenugui is a towel, wrapping cloth, headband or wall hanging, and they pack flat.
