About

Eifukucho Taishoken was founded in 1955 by Kenji Kusamura, who trained in the original Taishoken family of shops, and it became the root of its own school, the 'Eifuku-kei'. The signature bowl is enormous: a standard serving holds roughly two portions of soft, slippery medium noodles in a broth pungent with dried sardines and topped with a lacquer of oil that keeps it scalding hot to the last mouthful. The shop sits right by Eifukucho Station on the Keio Inokashira Line, and it has been modernised without losing the feel of an old-school institution. Many apprentices trained here before opening their own Eifuku-style shops across Tokyo. If you think Tokyo shoyu ramen is all delicate and minimalist, this bowl will reset your expectations.
