About

When Ruan opened in 1971 there were four cinemas on its doorstep and Omori was the liveliest strip in the area. The cinemas have gone, but the cafe has hardly changed: a facade like a Normandy street corner, heavy wooden furniture, stained glass, soft lamps and staff in waistcoats. It is a regular location for films and TV dramas. Coffee is siphon-brewed, but the cult orders are the "Versailles no Bara" tea, where cream hidden in the cup makes the tea spin as it is poured, the frothy cafe au lait poured from a great height, and coffee jelly crowned with a whipped-cream rose. Morning sets from 7:00 make it a fine pre-flight breakfast stop.
