About

Wedged in a valley between Roppongi and the Azabu hills, Azabu-Juban grew as a market town and still feels like one. Naniwaya Sohonten has been grilling 'lucky' taiyaki since 1909, Mamegen sells shio-okaki and roasted beans, Sarashina Horii has served white soba since the 18th century and Abe-chan grills yakitori over a sauce pot said to date from the war. Mix in foreign residents, smart patisseries and local sento-turned-cafes, and you have one of Tokyo's most pleasant 'living' streets. In late August the Azabu-Juban Noryo Matsuri festival packs the lanes with food stalls.
