About
Hanayashiki began as a botanical garden in the Edo period and became an amusement park in the 20th century. It's small, quaint and charming rather than thrilling: the 1953 Roller Coaster (Japan's oldest still running) rattles between neighbouring buildings at a modest 42 km/h, the Bee Tower gives a gentle view over Asakusa rooftops, and there's a haunted house, a ninja-themed maze and kiddie rides. Entry and rides are paid separately, or you can buy a one-day free pass. Look out for seasonal events and discount campaigns, such as free entry for visitors in kimono (running September–October 2026).
