Sugiyama Castle is admired by castle fans as a 'textbook' of earthen fortification: its zigzag ramparts, dry moats and baileys survive in near-perfect shape on a small wooded hill. A 30-minute loop covers the whole site. Continued 100 Fine Castles; part of the Hiki Castle Sites national historic site.
